Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure bike tour reaches Portage la Prairie

Son of Lyle Bauer (President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) brings cross-Canadian cycling trip to raise cancer awareness and funds through Portage la Prairie

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB – June 14, 2009 – Today, Chase the Cure, Wes Bauer’s cycling trip across Canada to raise funds and awareness for cancer, passes through Portage la Prairie, MB. Wes arrives into town at approximately 12 noon, and takes a few minutes to interact with the locals and raise awareness about the ride before he heads off to his hometown of Winnipeg.

“I feel priviledged to be spear-heading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians that are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, the event’s organizer. “My dad has successfully fought the disease, and I believe that if we work together to find a cure, there’s hope that one day no one will have to go through the pain that we did.”

Chase the Cure is taking Wes from coast to coast, through 10 provinces and over 100 Canadian communities. Along the way, Wes will continue to make strategic stops, encouraging people to chase the cure with him, by making donations, creating fundraising events and joining the ride. With the help of the Never Alone Foundation, all donations will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting in the research and support necessary for people who are affected by cancer.

“Wes can’t do this alone,” says Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers. “It is our hope that people will band together, hold events, ride along with him and raise funds for the cause. We’ve already gotten a lot of support, and are thrilled with the creativity and generosity Canadians have shared with us. Together we can win the fight.”

Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.
