Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign reroutes for Eskimo welcome
Wes Bauer (son of Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) rolls into Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium to be received for his
cross-Canadian bike ride for cancer
EDMONTON, AB - May 31, 2009 – This morning at 11 a.m. Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign, detours for a lap around Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, where the Edmonton Eskimos have planned a welcome for him. The visit will allow the Eskimos to welcome Wes and Chase the Cure to Edmonton and express CFL support for his efforts to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
“The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club is proud to support Wes in this ambitious and important endeavor to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer,” says Rick LeLacheur, President & CEO, Edmonton Eskimos. “Our best hope for a cure for cancer will come from the efforts of young people like Wes.”
Wes will be received by Rick LeLacheur and members of Eskimos staff. They will have an opportunity to hear how Wes’ father’s fight with the disease inspired him to begin this journey and has brought him to where he is today.
“I feel privileged to be spearheading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians who are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “We’ve received overwhelming support from the CFL so far, and efforts like the Eskimos’ welcome show us just how much the fight for a cure brings people from many different places, and teams, together.”
Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Wes will be making strategic stops in all the CFL and other major cities encouraging people to chase the cure with him, by making donations, increasing their knowledge about the disease and joining the ride. Donations given to Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting local cancer programs and provincial cancer foundations.
