Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign gears up for a Ticats welcome
Wes Bauer (son of Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) rolls into Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium to be received for his cross-Canadian bike ride for cancer
HAMILTON, ON – July 8, 2009 – This afternoon, at 1 p.m., Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign cruises into Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium, where the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have planned a meet and greet for him. The visit will allow the Ticats to welcome Chase the Cure to Hamilton, and express CFL support for his efforts to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
"The Tiger-Cats are proud to support Wes Bauer and Chase the Cure ," said Hamilton Tiger-Cats president Scott Mitchell. "We welcome him into Hamilton and we're excited to help Wes continue to make a difference with this amazing initiative."
Wes will be received by Scott Mitchell, who will be making a special presentation to Chase the Cure on behalf of the team. Wes will also be welcomed by the team and members of the Tiger-Cats staff. They will have an opportunity to hear how Wes’ father’s fight with the disease inspired him to begin this journey and has brought him to where he is today.
“I feel privileged to be spearheading a campaign that truly allows people to positively impact the many Canadians who are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “We’ve received overwhelming support from the CFL so far, and efforts like the Ticats welcome show us just how much the fight for a cure brings people from many different places, and teams, together.”
The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer. It spearheads several fundraising initiatives, including: the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands and pins, the Never Alone luncheon, Fish for the Cure, and numerous other events that raise funds to assist with cancer education and awareness, research and patient support services.
Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer that started in Victoria, BC on May 14, and will end in St. John’s, NL, on August 15. The campaign’s main objective is to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.
