Twenty-year-old Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign to receive
Alouette welcome
Wes Bauer (son of Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) to receive a special half-time presentation for his cross-Canadian bike ride for cancer
MONTRÉAL, QB – July23, 2009 – Today, before 7:30 p.m. kickoff, Wes Bauer’s cross-Canadian cycling journey to raise funds and awareness for cancer, Chase the Cure, will be honoured by the Montréal Alouettes at the Stade Percival Molson, where the Als have planned a special pre-game presentation for Chase the Cure. The gesture will serve to welcome Wes to Montréal and show CFL support for his efforts to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Wes will be received by Larry Smith, various Als staff, members of the cheerleading team, and thousands of spirited fans.
“I feel privileged to be spearheading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians who are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “My father’s story started this fight for me, and the many stories of the incredible people I’ve met along the way have continued it.”
Chase the Cure is taking Wes from coast to coast, through 10 provinces and over 100 Canadian communities. Along the way, Wes will continue to make strategic stops, encouraging people to chase the cure with him, by making donations, creating fundraising events and joining the ride. With the help of the Never Alone Foundation, all donations will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting in the research and support necessary for people who are affected by cancer.
“I’m excited to bring the Chase to Montréal, and look forward to the Als welcome,” says Bauer. “We’ve received overwhelming support from the CFL so far, and supportive efforts such as this show us just how much the fight for a cure brings people from many different places, and teams, together.”
The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer. It spearheads several fundraising initiatives, including: the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands and pins, the Never Alone luncheon, Fish for the Cure, and numerous other events that raise funds to assist with cancer education and awareness, research and patient support services.
Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer that started in Victoria, BC on May 14, and will end in St. John’s, NL, on August 15. The campaign’s main objective is to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.
