Backgrounders:
The President and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club, Lyle Bauer, was diagnosed with throat cancer in late 2004. His experience with the disease inspired him to assist cancer victims and their families. Never Alone was his initiative, and was officially launched in February of 2005 during the CFL Coach of the Year Award luncheon in Winnipeg.
Blue wristbands serve as a visual reminder that no one is ever alone when it comes to fighting cancer. The Never Alone pin program is another ongoing approach to fundraising.
The success of the program led to the creation of the Never alone Foundation. The foundation is spearheading several fundraising initiatives for including the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands, Never Alone pins, the Never Alone luncheon, the Never Alone social and other events to raise funds.
The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer through research, education and patient support services.
