Chase the Cure, a cross-Canadian cancer-fighting bike tour,
makes a stop at a local school

Twenty-year-old Wes Bauer’s bike trip to raise awareness and funds for cancer, Chase the Cure, slows in Regina for a presentation at Campbell Collegiate

REGINA, SK – JUNE 10, 2009 – Today, at 10 a.m. Wes Bauer will take a morning off Chase the Cure, his national cycling trip to raise funds and awareness for cancer, to talk to the students at Regina’s Campbell Collegiate in the 3rd floor Teaching Theatre. Wes will share with the students how his father’s battle with cancer inspired him to make a difference for other people in the fight against the disease, as well as many others who remind him about why it’s so important to continue chasing a cure for it. Wes will be speaking as a part of the students’ “Campbell vs. Cancer” initiative, which educates students about cancer prevention and promotes healthy living.

“High school students are capable of so much more than they are given credit for and this amazing initiative has allowed us to show it,” says Hope-Laura Rudiak, Campbell Collegiate student. “Prevention of cancer is everyone’s priority.”

Chase the Cure will take Wes from coast to coast, through 10 provinces and over 100 Canadian communities. Along the way, Wes will be making strategic stops like this one, encouraging people of all ages to chase the cure with him, by educating themselves, making donations, holding fundraising events and joining the ride.

“These students aren’t much younger than I am, and I want to show them they can make a difference,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “It’s about more than simply talking to students. It’s about prevention, and making informed decisions. It’s about spurring them on to their full potential and getting them passionate about the cause. They are the generation that will find a cure and end this fight.”

The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer. It spearheads several fundraising initiatives, including: the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands and pins, the Never Alone luncheon, Fish for the Cure, and numerous other events that raise funds to assist with cancer education and awareness, research and patient support services.

Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.  For more information or to make a donation, go to www.chasethecure.ca.
