Chase the Cure, a cross-Canadian cancer-fighting bike tour, makes a Canada Day stop in the Sault
Twenty-year-old Wes Bauer’s bike trip to raise awareness and funds for cancer, Chase the Cure, slows in Sault Ste. Marie to “Celebrate Canada”
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – JULY 1, 2009 – Today, at 1 p.m. Wes Bauer will take the afternoon off Chase the Cure, his national cycling trip to raise funds and awareness for cancer, to take part in the city’s “Celebrate Canada” event at the Roberta Bondar Park Tent Pavilion. Wes will share how his father’s battle with cancer inspired him to make a difference for other people in the fight against the disease, as well as many others who remind him about why it’s so important to continue chasing a cure for it. Wes will also be collecting donations.
“I feel priviledged to be spear-heading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians that are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “My dad has successfully fought the disease, and I believe that if we work together to find a cure, there’s hope that one day no one will have to go through the pain that we did.”
Chase the Cure will take Wes from coast to coast, through 10 provinces and over 100 Canadian communities. Along the way, Wes will be making strategic stops like this one, encouraging people to chase the cure with him, by educating themselves, making donations, holding fundraising events and joining the ride.
“Canada Day is a day to celebrate our nation and come together with pride,” says Bauer. “It’s about realizing our strengths as a country and uniting. By making a small donation to the cause, we can show Canadians fighting this disease that they are not alone. We are supporting them and fighting with them.”
The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer. It spearheads several fundraising initiatives, including: the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands and pins, the Never Alone luncheon, Fish for the Cure, and numerous other events that raise funds to assist with cancer education and awareness, research and patient support services.
Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer that started in Victoria, BC on May 14, and will end in St. John’s, NL, on August 15. The campaign’s main objective is to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.
