Twenty-year-old Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign to receive
Argo welcome
Wes Bauer (son of Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) to receive a special half-time presentation for his cross-Canadian bike ride for cancer
TORONTO, ON - July 11, 2009 – This afternoon, at 12 p.m., Wes Bauer’s cross-Canadian cycling journey, Chase the Cure, will be honoured by Zach Paikin and his initiative, CFL Fans Fight Cancer, who will donate their tailgater’s 50/50 draw to Bauer’s campaign. They will meet him at the southwest corner of York and Bremner with the Argonotes Band.
The Toronto welcome will continue at 1 p.m. inside Rogers Stadium, where the Toronto Argonauts have planned a special half-time presentation for Chase the Cure. The gesture will serve to welcome Wes to Toronto and show CFL support for his efforts to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
“I feel privileged to be spearheading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians who are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “CFL Fans Fight Cancer is a great example of ordinary Canadians banding together to help each other. It’s incredible to see.”
Wes will be received by President & CEO Bob Nicholson, members of Argonauts staff and members of the Argos’ cheerleading team. Fans will hear how Wes’ father’s fight with the disease inspired him to begin this journey and has brought him to where he is today.
“We’ve received overwhelming support from the CFL so far,” says Bauer, “and efforts like the Argos’ welcome show us just how much the fight for a cure brings people from many different places, and teams, together.”
The Never Alone Foundation’s mission is to help individuals and their families in the fight against cancer. It spearheads several fundraising initiatives, including: the ongoing sale of Never Alone wristbands and pins, the Never Alone luncheon, Fish for the Cure, and numerous other events that raise funds to assist with cancer education and awareness, research and patient support services.
Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer that started in Victoria, BC on May 14, and will end in St. John’s, NL, on August 15. The campaign’s main objective is to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Donations raised throughout Canada by Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting various local cancer programs and provincial foundations.
