Twenty-year-old Wes Bauer’s Chase the Cure campaign
spurs on Stamps Meet & Greet

Wes Bauer (son of Lyle Bauer, President & CEO, Winnipeg Blue Bombers) to receive a warm Calgary Stampeder welcome for his cross-Canadian bike ride for cancer.

May 27, 2009 - CALGARY, AB - This morning, at 11 a.m. Wes Bauer will take his cross-Canadian cycling journey, Chase the Cure, to McMahon Stadium, where the Calgary Stampeders have planned a welcoming committee for him. The meet-and-greet will serve to welcome Wes to Calgary and show CFL support for his efforts to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

“This is an amazing initiative and something that our club is proud to support,” says Scott Ackles, Calgary Stampeders President. “Obviously this is something that is close to all members of the Canadian Football League and we were excited to help Wes with this cause.”

Wes will be received by Stamps defensive back Wes Lysack, punter Burke Dales, managing partner Ted Hellard, president Scott Ackles, members of Stamps staff and members of the Stampeder Outriders. Fans are invited to attend a light lunch and meet Wes and the players at the stadium. They will have an opportunity to hear how Wes’ father’s fight with the disease inspired him to begin this journey and has brought him to where he is today.

“I feel privileged to be spearheading a campaign that truly allows people to make a difference for the many Canadians who are affected by cancer,” says Wes Bauer, Chase the Cure organizer. “We’ve received overwhelming support from the CFL so far, and efforts like the Stampeders’ welcome show us just how much the fight for a cure brings people from many different places, and teams, together.”

Chase the Cure is an initiative in support of the Never Alone Foundation. It is a cross-Canadian bike tour with Wes Bauer to raise funds and awareness to help end cancer. Wes will be making strategic stops in all the CFL and other major cities encouraging people to chase the cure with him, by making donations, increasing their knowledge about the disease and joining the ride. Donations given to Chase the Cure will stay in the provinces they are raised, assisting local cancer programs and provincial cancer foundations.
